Job Summary | Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Assistant (RA) will facilitate a funded project in advanced mammalian-microbe co-culture platforms using polymeric bioink cell patterning and engineered oral mucosal epithelium. The developed platforms will be used for functional screening of theraputic microbes to treat chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis and other oral diseases. |
Key Responsibilities | Perform experiments related to basic and applied research in consultation with the PI and collaborators. Disseminate results via preparation of reports and presentation lab meetings, departmental seminars and conferences. Assist in the preparation of conference abstracts, manuscripts and grant applications. Provide training and support for graduate and undergraduate trainees. Establish and optimize lab methods and protocols. Contribute to general lab upkeep, including ordering supplies and equipment maintenance. |

Required Qualifications | Undergraduate degree with 2-years of related wet lab experience, including, but not limited to microbiology, cell biology and biomedical engineering. Excellent time management and verbal and written English communication skills. Must be solution oriented, creative and think outside the box for innovative solutions. |
Assets | Master’s degree. Experience in tissue engineering and/or in vitro 3-D tissue-based assay platform development. Experience in microfluidic device development. |
